Job Description: 

Office Work Location:  Parkway Central Library 1901 Vine Street.

Wage: $10.00/hr.- Must qualify for federal work-study. Contact to review eligibility.

Length of Employment: Fall 2022- Spring 2023 semester


Work- Schedule: The position requires staffing two to three days a week during the afternoons anytime between 11:00am and 4:00pm. The schedule is flexible. However, preference will be given to someone who can work regular hours that can be promoted to library users, for example Mondays and Wednesdays from 12:00pm to 3:00pm.


The Business Resource and Innovation Center (BRIC) at Parkway Central Library is seeking an energetic, responsible work study student to join our team.  In this position, you will be expected to assist job seekers with using PCs and basic web tools. You will also provide computer help and instruction as needed. The BRIC supports entrepreneurs, nonprofits, job seekers, and inventors at every stage, helping to improve their skills through individualized guidance in research, public programs, and curated print and digital resources. The BRIC also assists adults with basic computer skills entering the workforce.



  • Tutor adults in basic computer and workforce development skills
  • Provide one-on-one in person assistance to job seekers with using basic web tools including Google Chrome, Google GSuite, MS Word, and Indeed
  • Provide computer help and instruction as needed such as using flash drives, saving, accessing, and uploading documents
  • Provide assistance using a printer, scanner, and photocopier
  • Provide general guidance to job seekers on resumes and online job applications
  • Willingness to learn about Free Library resources for job seekers


  • All off campus work study students are required to have federal work study as a part of their financial aid package.
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Proficient with Google GSuite (especially, Drive, Docs, and Sheets), Microsoft Windows and Office Suite (especially Word and Excel), and web browsers (especially Google Chrome)
  • Familiarity with job searching websites such as Indeed and employer websites (eg. Target, Walmart, Amazon)
  • Ability to demonstrate the use of flash drives, printers, photocopiers, scanners, and similar tools
  • Familiarity with Zoom video conferencing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-directed and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Energetic
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to work with diverse populations

Students who accept positions with the Free Library Off Campus Work Study Program will be required to complete the PA State Child Abuse Clearances in order to be permitted to work with minors. There is no cost to the student for the completion of these clearances.


The City of Philadelphia and the Free Library of Philadelphia require that all employees be vaccinated for COVID-19 or else submit an exemption for us to keep on file. If you are not vaccinated but provide us with an exemption you will also need to agree to wear a double mask when working in any Free Library location
