Job Description: 
  • Location:  4247 W. Stiles Street, Phila PA 19104
  • Wage: $11/hr
  • Length of Employment:  June 2022 - June 2023
  • Work Schedule:  Spiral Q has a fairly flexible work schedule, but Apprentices should have the ability to work at least 8 hours a week. Hours will mainly fall during office hours, from 10am-6pm, but programs may require availability on some nights and weekends.

  • Note that, all positions require successful applicants to provide the following background checks upon hire: PA Criminal Record Check and PA Child Abuse History Clearance at their own expense. An existing record does not automatically disqualify your application.
  • Students’ work takes place at Spiral Q’s studio in West Philadelphia at 4247 Stiles Street and at community sites around Philadelphia depending on your apprenticeship role and schedule availability to be in programs.

Spiral Q believes in harm reduction and community care which means we are taking extra precautions to make sure our network of humans are practicing the best public health practices. Spiral Q requires all employees to wear KN-95 or surgical masks while working indoors and outdoors when working with children on school grounds. When working outdoors: if social distancing is allowed, employees may remove their masks based on comfortability and shifting school policies.
Spiral Q will provide employees with free N-95 masks upon need and/or request.

Program Assistant Duties & Responsibilities:

●    Support Spiral Q teaching artists in engaging youth in arts programming at schools, social service agencies and one-off events around Philadelphia.
●    Assist in planning, preparing, and promoting Spiral Q events
●    Help host and facilitate art builds and events at Spiral Q’s studio
●    Manage and track recyclable  material donations
●    Work at organizational events such as parades, presentations, or fundraisers.
●    Other responsibilities as needed and fit your strengths

Studio Assistant Duties & Responsibilities:

●    Maintain Studio space and inventory of supplies
●    Arrange studio space for workshops, presentations, and performances
●    Support artists and teaching artists residencies with materials and supplies
●    Work with staff, guest artists, and community members on creative projects in our studio and in the community
●    Work at organizational events such as parades, presentations, or fund-raisers.
●    Other responsibilities as needed

●    Self-motivated, self directed, with a willingness to learn, willingness to teach, and a sense of humor.
●    Available for occasional weekend and evening events.
●    Some comfort with public speaking, presentation and performance
●    Excellent communication, organization, problem -solving, and collaborative skills
●    Ability to work independently and think creatively
●    Desire to work with, and sensitive to, diverse communities
●    Ability to handle multiple tasks and details in fast paced environment
●    Per Pennsylvania state law, all employees must provide criminal background and
child abuse clearance checks upon hire.
●    Ability to work at least 8 hours a week

Studio Assistant Qualifications:

●    Commitment to Spiral Q’s mission, vision and values (please see website: www.spiralq.org)
●    Advocate of social, racial, and economic justice.
●    Self-motivated, self directed, with a willingness to learn, willingness to teach, and a sense of humor.
●    Available for occasional weekend and evening events.
●    Comfort using power tools and handsaws
●    Strong organizational skills
●    A valid driver's license (not required)
●    Per Pennsylvania state law, all employees must provide criminal background and child abuse clearance checks upon hire.
●    Interest in exploring alternative approaches to 3D form, textiles, theater, or printmaking.
●    Ability to work at least 8 hours a week
