Possible Outcome

I have filed my FAFSA and received an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of Zero (0)

You are already receiving the maximum amount of Federal Pell Grant. No additional funding can be offered from this appeal.

I have filed my FAFSA and received an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) significantly higher than 10000 or more. We have experienced a slight change in income

To be eligible for a federal Pell Grant, your EFC must be 6656 or less. Impact depends on the severity of the loss of income.

I have experienced a significant change of circumstances affecting the majority of my familys income, such as unemployment, and our EFC is greater than 6656.

This may only result in the student receiving a federal Pell Grant, which carries a maximum award of $7,395 and/or a subsidized loan.

I have experienced a significant change of circumstances affecting the majority of my familys income, and our EFC is less than 6656.

This may only result in the student receiving an increase of the federal Pell grant, which carries a maximum award of $7,395.

I anticipate a significant change in business income for the current year.

Unfortunately, fluctuations in business income or other types of self-employment income are not reviewed for appeals, as they are considered a part of the business cycle. If they have been caused by an extreme event outside of your control (such as medical illness, injury, or property damage), please contact our office.

I have excessive out-of-pocket medical expenses.

We can only consider paid expenses that are not itemized on your taxes. Depending on AGI, your paid expenses must be significant.
