Free Migration Project (FMP) works at the intersection of law and community organizing to promote freedom of movement as a basic human right. Founded in 2016, FMP represents immigrant clients in their legal proceedings, provides legal support and training to organizers and advocates, engages in public education and outreach, litigates in the public interest, and advocates for fair and open immigration laws. At FMP we are looking for a creative, self-starter Communications and Social Media Intern to work alongside our Deputy Director. The Communications and Social Media Intern will be responsible for planning social media calendars, creating social media posts and assisting the Deputy Director with brainstorming social media campaigns.

A successful candidate for this position must have a passion for social justice, advocating for immigrants' rights and challenging the current immigration system. As well as an understanding of the important role social media plays in contemporary movement building.

Social Media Intern Responsibilities:

  • Manage the social media calendar under Deputy Director supervision Brainstorm social media outreach ideas for various campaigns.
  • Assist in maintaining Wordpress websites, and post on various social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Bluesky, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok.
  • Research and summarize relevant immigrant rights topics for posts.
  • Create original, educational content about our campaigns and general immigrant rights issues.
  • Manage social media during actions, rallies and certain events.
  • Provide insight through social media analytics to gauge success of outreach.

Grandma's Kids- Elementary School Tutor

Position:  Elementary School Tutor

Program Information: 

The Grandma’s Kids’ program is an after-school program for Kindergarten to 5th grade students that provides academic and socio-emotional services to children in schools within the School District of Philadelphia. The schools are located North Philadelphia neighborhoods. The program specifically targets children who are being raised in kinship care, single parent homes, and/or low income households.

The goal of Grandma’s Kids program is to provide quality education programming for these by providing academic support, promotion of healthy lifestyles, enhancement of students’ positive social behaviors and attitudes towards school. We believe in creating a nurturing, trauma-informed practices so that the learning environment is supportive and leads to personal and academic growth. Responsibilities:

Including but not limited to the following:

  • Ensure high-quality tax preparation services for clients.
  • Work with VITA staff and the Communications team to execute a marketing plan for the VITA program.
  • Maintain all equipment (computers, printers, etc.)
  • Ensure that processes are in place at each site to treat each client with respect, while maintaining privacy and confidentiality.
  • Coordinate with VITA staff and the volunteer team to resolve client tax issues.
  • Partner with outside agencies, organizations, governmental entities, and community partner organizations to execute the VITA program.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of procedures at all tax preparation sites.
  • Develop procedures and manuals to ensure that sites run smoothly, including but not limited to greeting and screening clients, processing intake forms, processing tax forms, troubleshooting, quality control, tracking client information and data, and transmitting returns to the IRS.
  • Ensure all quality site requirements are followed to protect Ceiba and all volunteers from liability.
  • Work with specific agencies to facilitate the preparation of resident tax returns through VITA.
  • Maintain VITA tax preparation certification at an advanced level.
  • Recruit new volunteers to become trained and certified as VITA tax preparers through various channels and strategies, and retain and engage current VITA volunteers.
  • Plan and execute training programs for new and returning volunteers. Ensure compliance with all IRS rules and regulations.

General Qualifications:

  • Strong writing, public speaking and organizing skills.
  • The ability to build relationships with community people, staff of community-based organizations, business and corporate leaders and officials at the federal, state, and local level.
  • Good negotiating and conflict resolution skills.
  • Fluency in Spanish or Indonesian is preferred but not required.

Job Description:

Learn to Be provides a flexible, remote opportunity to interested Federal Work Study college students to serve as a virtual tutor. As a tutor with LTB, you will make your own schedule and pick which grade levels and subjects you wish to tutor. You can tutor as many or as few grade levels or subjects as you feel comfortable with. This position is open to all majors and you do not need to have tutoring or teaching experience! This position requires working directly with minors.

  • Tutors communicate student preferences, grade, subject and availability.
  • Tutors will select students, based on tutor preferences of grade level and subject.
  • Once connected, tutors communicate directly with your student/family to determine the best schedule for lessons. Establish the best way to stay in touch and communicate with them regularly.
  • Commit to tutoring 1-2x per week (or more!) for at least a semester.
  • Support your student/s through homework help, test prep, and engaging lesson plans.
  • Act as a mentor, not just a tutor.

Spiral Q-Program Assistant & Studio Assistant

Work Schedule: Spiral Q has a fairly flexible work schedule, but Apprentices should have the ability to  work at least 8 hours a week. Hours will mainly fall during office hours, from 10am-6pm on weekdays, but programs may seek availability on some nights and  weekends.

Program Assistant Duties & Responsibilities

Support Spiral Q teaching artists in engaging youth in arts programming at schools, social service agencies and one-off events around Philadelphia. 

  • Assist in planning, preparing, and promoting Spiral Q events 
  • Help host and facilitate art builds and events at Spiral Q’s studio 
  • Manage and track recyclable material donations

The Pennsylvania Environmental Council (PEC) protects and restores the natural and built environment through innovation, collaboration, education, and advocacy. The Pennsylvania Organization for Watersheds and Rivers (POWR), a supporting organization of PEC, provides the tools, training, and resources that empower community watershed organization leaders to protect and restore rivers and streams, advocate for sound water resource management, and facilitate stewardship of Pennsylvania’s waterways. The Graduate Fellow will assist PEC’s Watersheds Program and POWR staff and PEC’s Trails & Outdoor Recreation Program staff on various projects in support of the organizations’ missions. The position will be based in PEC’s Philadelphia office and offers optional hybrid remote work two days per week.
The Graduate Fellow will support the Watersheds Program and POWR with a range of needs including research and development of outreach and education program materials that address water resource issues in southeastern Pennsylvania streams and rivers. This work involves: researching current trends in watershed planning related to improving the management of stormwater runoff from urban and suburban land uses; creating and updating training and outreach materials; developing graphics and presentations under the direction of PEC staff for diverse audiences including municipal officials, municipal staff, watershed organizations and private landowners.

The Fellow will assist in research on municipal codes and alternative financial and economic incentives for implementing green infrastructure projects. The position includes supporting PEC’s work in evaluating if municipal development ordinances enable green stormwater infrastructure and related nature-based practices. The work also may involve planning, supporting, and promoting regional watershed groups and water trail manager workshops.
The Graduate Fellow will support PEC’s Trails & Outdoor Recreation Program with the administration of a mini-grant program that aims to increase awareness and use of the Circuit Trails multi-use trail network among under-represented and marginalized groups. The Fellow will assist with the launch of a new round of mini-grant funding and will engage with current grantees through capacity-building sessions and virtual meet-ups. The Fellow may also conduct research on workforce development program models as they relate to addressing trail maintenance needs across the Circuit Trails network.


Qualifications:

  • Computer proficiency with word processing, graphic design, and databases is essential.
  • Excellent communications skills, writing, and research capabilities are essential.
  • Working knowledge of GIS software (ArcGIS 10) and CANVA is desirable.
  • Proficiency in Adobe or Microsoft graphic programs (e.g., In-Design, Publisher, Illustrator) a plus.
  • Working towards an environmental studies, urban planning, landscape architecture, or similar degree.
