Academic Merit Scholarships

This policy pertains to merit-based scholarships awarded by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions upon the your admission to Temple University. Scholarships issued by the academic departments are subject to the department's criteria.

First-Year Students

Undergraduate scholarships will renew for four academic years (8 consecutive regular, undergraduate semesters) as long as the following conditions are met:

  • Maintain consecutive full-time enrollment
  • Maintain academic eligibility
    • President and Provost's Scholarships: Guaranteed for first four (4) consecutive full-time semesters, at the end of which a 3.25 cumulative GPA must be achieved and maintained in order to renew the scholarship annually.
    • Other Temple Merit Scholarships: Guaranteed for first four (4) consecutive, undergraduate semesters, at the end of which a 3.00 cumulative GPA must be achieved and maintained in order to renew the scholarship annually.

Transfer Students

Undergraduate scholarships will renew for three academic years (6 consecutive regular, undergraduate semesters) as long as the following conditions are met:

  • Maintain consecutive full-time enrollment. Dual Admission recipients may receive half of their award if enrolled at least part-time (6-11 credits)
  • Maintain academic eligibility. A 3.00 cumulative GPA must be achieved and maintained in order to renew the scholarship annually.

Additional Information

  • Undergraduate summer classes may be taken at Temple University in the immediately available session(s) to reestablish the cumulative GPA requirement for merit-based scholarships awarded by Undergraduate Admissions (ex: Dean's, Founder's, etc.)
  • Departmental scholarships are subject to separate criteria; students should contact their academic department with eligibility questions.

Exceptions

You may request scholarship reinstatement due to the following documented exceptions:

If you improve your cumulative GPA upon the completion of summer courses at Temple University immediately following the notice of ineligibility, then you may request a scholarship reinstatement once their summer grades have been transcripted.

If your scholarship has been revoked, then you may request reinstatement via the Scholarship Reinstatement Request Form. We begin reviewing requests in July for the upcoming fall semester, and reviews continue on a rolling basis. Scholarship reinstatement decisions are final. In general, once a scholarship is lost due to not meeting the renewal criteria, it may not be reinstated.
