Enrollment

Your enrollment status at Temple University is determined by the number of credits you are registered for the term. The definitions and terms below are used to establish your enrollment for financial aid purposes. Changes to your enrollment may alter your financial aid eligibility. Please see the following pages for additional information:

A full-time year for an undergraduate student for Title IV financial aid purposes is defined as 24 credits; for a graduate student, it is 18 credits. The definitions below are applicable to Fall, Spring, and Summer terms. There is not a separate definition or category for summer.

Undergraduate Students

  • Full-Time Enrollment is defined as 12 credits or more per semester.
    • Repeating a course for a third time may result in your financial aid credits being counted as less than full-time. Please see the Repeated Coursework policy for details. This may affect your eligibility for federal Pell Grant, Temple Grant, or certain federal loans under provisions of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
  • Half-Time Enrollment is defined as 6 credits per semester.
  • Less Than Half-Time Enrollment is defined as 5.9 credits or less per semester.

Graduate Students

  • Full-Time Enrollment is defined as 9 credits or more per semester.
    • Certain courses, such as dissertation or master's thesis classes, may permit you to enroll in 1 credit but be considered full-time. This is a very specific category of classes, and not all classes can be updated in this manner.
  • Half-Time Enrollment is defined as 4.5 credits per semester.
  • Less Than Half-Time Enrollment is defined as 4.4 credits or less per semester.
